World Cup 2006 Photos Day 9

Today is our last full day in Budapest. This means lots of photos as we tried to get to all the final stuff we'd not yet seen. We started off heading down past the market to the tram. You can see the market through the window below. This isn't the large market from before, it's a smaller one that looks similar and is close to our B&B. The tram rides are nice and definately better than walking. We got a 3 day pass a few days ago that allowed us to use the trams, buses, and metro system.

We got off the tram then headed up the funicular. We wanted to visit the castle district. There isn't really a castle there, much like Prague castle, but it's the oldest part of the town. It's also got some nice churches and wonderful views of the city.

The funicular trip is at the base of the chain bridge. Here's the view once at the top. There was something going on at the bridge today, it was closed to car traffic. We never got a chance to get back to see what it was.

Here is a view of the Pest side of Budapest.

So we made it to this look out area. We knew it was close to our hotel, but uphill. At the base of this are a bunch of steps. Turns out right at the bottom of the steps, is where we are staying. So instead of taking the funicular up and walking a bit, we could have just gone up the steps and been right here. There are lots of trees below this point, which is why we couldn't see it before. It would have been neat to spend more time in this area, had we realized how close it was we probably would have.

One of the few family photos.

Here is the church in the castle district, right in front of that lookout area. We wanted to go inside, but it wasn't opening for another hour, since it was Sunday. So after I took this photo we walked around a bit to kill time. We also went to a market to buy some cold cuts and bread to make sandwiches for lunch.

After coming back to go inside the church, the sky was much nicer. This made for a better photo.

Maya enjoyed running around the lookout area. I snapped this one of her as she ran by me and Miranda chased her.

I think I could pick this car up on my own, it was tiny!

This was inside the church from before. It was really wonderful. This is my favorite photo of the bunch, but I have many from inside.

After going inside the church, we headed down the steps that went straight to our B&B. We relaxed for a bit, then came back up for dinner. After dinner we walked around a bit til dark, and I snapped these photos.

This is the church again.

The lookout, which has a real name I can't remember.

And finally Parilment at night. It really is a wonderful building.

Thats it for us and Budapest. Tomorrow we're going to take off around 9:30-10 and head back to Vienna. On the way we plan to stop off in Sopron which is on the border of Hungary and Austria. Our flight isn't until 7:45, so I think we can easily spend a few hours there before dropping the car off and flying back to Frankfurt for the night.
